Tinubu Requests Senate Confirmation of Oyedele’s Position as State Finance Minister

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requested that Taiwo Oyedele be confirmed as Minister of State for Finance by the Senate.

The request was made in a letter to Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, and it was read during the plenary on Tuesday.

The President asked the Senate to accelerate the nominee’s vetting and confirmation process in the letter.

The Senate sent the request to the Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration after reading the letter.

According to Naija News, Akpabio read three more letters from the President asking the Senate to approve other significant nominations during the plenary.

One of the letters asked for Mainasara Ilo to be confirmed as the Nigeria Anti-Doping Center’s executive secretary and chief executive officer.

The request states that, if approved, Ilo will serve a four-year initial term.

The nomination was then forwarded by the Senate to the Committee on Narcotics and Sports for additional legislative consideration.

Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm three appointments to the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in a different letter.

Magnus Abe was proposed by the President to serve as the commission’s chairman, and Sunday Adebayo and Jossy Yaro were proposed as non-executive commissioners.

The Senate instructed the Committee on Petroleum (Upstream) to provide its report within a week after referring the nominations to it.

Another letter from Tinubu announcing nominations for the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission was also read by the Senate President.

The President proposed Abdulahi Muktar from Kaduna State and Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State as commissioners in the letter.

The Senate Committee on National Planning was tasked with reviewing the request and providing a report within a week.

In the meantime, in remembrance of the late senator from Rivers South-East, Barinada Mpigi, the Senate postponed its plenary until Wednesday, March 11.

Remember that Mpigi passed away in the UK following a protracted illness?

In remembrance of the departed politician, lawmakers decided to halt operations for the day.
