The Onitsha market will be gradually renovated, according to the Anambra government and vendors.

In order to enhance infrastructure and provide a more structured and sustainable business environment, the Anambra government claims to have struck an agreement with traders to start the Onitsha Main Market’s progressive renovation.

Following a discussion with vendors from the Onitsha Main Market and nearby markets at Government House, Awka, Governor Chukwuma Soludo revealed this on Friday.

According to Soludo, the interaction led to a mutual understanding with dealers to start reviving the market right away.

He mentioned that in order to minimize interference with business operations, the exercise would be conducted in stages.

The governor stated that in order to ensure the future, leadership occasionally necessitated making difficult but essential choices.

According to him, the goal of the operation was to realign the market with international norms.

“Building public amenities, repairing walkways, and reclaiming market parks are the main elements of the emergency intervention.

Shops and trading lines are being repainted and color-coded by others.

The program, Soludo continued, was consistent with his administration’s pledge to build planned and sustainable cities, villages, and markets throughout the state.

The governor was informed earlier by Mr. Chijioke Okpalugo, Chairman of Onitsha Main Market, that merchants had chosen the government-proposed renovation alternative.

However, Okpalugo made an appeal for a while to allow merchants to take their items out of regions where illegal buildings are present.
