The Lagos State Government has denied claims made by Korope drivers, commercial bus operators, that it intends to seize control of transportation routes along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in order to implement Seyi Tinubu’s new buses.
The truckers’ demonstration at Block VGC Road on Wednesday, where they claimed the government was interfering with their business, generated a lot of social media activity.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, addressed the issue and called the allegations “false.”
He clarified that the Lagos State Government’s Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) framework has officially transformed the Lekki–Epe route into a Mass Transit and Regulated Transport route.
“The State’s long-term vision for a safer, more efficient, and economically viable transport ecosystem is in line with this transition, which is purposeful and data-driven,” Osiyemi stated.
Emphasizing that substantial stakeholder engagement precedes enforcement, he emphasized that the prohibition of unlicensed Korope operations is neither abrupt nor targeted. Transportation unions, corridor operators, and pertinent associations were consulted on several occasions. Sensitisation exercises, public advisories, and structured notifications were issued well ahead of enforcement to ensure clarity and compliance,” he added.
The government’s dedication to organized mass transit, well-run transportation networks, and the preservation of life and property was reiterated by the commissioner. “We encourage all operators to adhere to the corridor’s regulatory framework and support organized involvement in the official transportation system,” he stated.
