The last six people kidnapped from the Aiyetoro-Kiri community in Bunu territory, Kogi State, have been freed by terrorists.
The Aiyetoro-Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) announced the development in a statement released on Wednesday.
The group claimed that the release put an end to what it called a painful ordeal for the victims, their families, and the entire community after weeks of heated discussions and ransom payments.
Recall that on December 14, 2025, a branch of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the Aiyetoro-Kiri community, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State, was assaulted by alleged bandits.
At least one person died during the assault, and an unknown number of parishioners were kidnapped.
The abductees were freed in batches, according to AKBDA.
On January 1, 2026, the first group of seven victims were let free; three more were set free on January 12, and fourteen more were set free the following day.
The procedure was completed most recently with the release of the last six abductees.
The organization thanked God for all of the victims’ safe return and thanked the families, neighbors, and well-wishers for their perseverance and support during the trying time.
