Shettima exhorts Nigerians to use Lent and Ramadan to fortify national unity.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to show practical compassion for their fellow citizens and to fortify national unity by observing Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season simultaneously.

Shettima characterized the time as a chance for both communal nation-building and spiritual rejuvenation in a statement released on Thursday.

The vice president called for active engagements in resolving the nation’s seemingly insurmountable difficulties, stating that the holy month required more than religious rites.

Let’s not just provide food for the hungry but also encourage the tired; let’s not only be charitable but also show kindness; let’s not just pray for peace but also strive for justice.

“This is what Ramadan is really all about,” he remarked.

Ramadan is also “a journey of the soul and a time for deep reflection, for self-purification, and for embracing the true essence of Islam—peace, patience, sacrifice, and service to humanity,” according to Shettima.

In laudatory remarks, he referred to Nigeria’s religious leaders of all religions as “the moral and spiritual compass of the nation.”

During this time when both of the major religious communities are practicing spiritual disciplines, Shettima also recognized their crucial role in forming the ethical foundation of the nation.

While saying, “We must strengthen the bonds that unite us and reject the forces that seek to divide us,” the vice president urged prayers for national stability throughout the holy season.

Additionally, he asked for generous prayers for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, requesting that the president be given “wisdom, strength, and foresight to pilot the affairs of our great nation” by divine direction. (NAN)
