Saraki: Why the EFCC Came After Me

Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) cases against him were the result of a political witch hunt.

According to Naija News, Saraki claims that his encounter with the anti-graft agency was brought on by the Senate, which he led, refusing to confirm an acting EFCC Chairman who had come for screening before the parliamentarians.

He clarified that because the interim chairman did not match the requirements and the security report did not clear him, the Senate did not confirm him.

Saraki, however, claimed that the impacted individual steadfastly continued to hold office, and that some of them—including himself—had to bear the personal expenses and were persecuted for turning down his candidacy.

The EFCC’s acting chairman appeared before us. “We declined after looking over his credentials and security assessment. However, he continued to hold office. defiant. completely ignored our rejection.

And some of us had to pay a personal price for that. In an interview with Vanguard, Saraki stated, “We were hunted, just because of that.”

Human rights advocate Deji Adeyanju and social media star Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, will be the subject of an investigation by the EFCC on allegations of terror financing, illicit funding sources, and other potential security concerns.

The action comes after attorney Blessing Agbomhere filed a petition asking the commission to look into how the two individuals raise and spend money for their public endeavors.

He demanded that their sponsorships, lobbying campaigns, media appearances, protests, and legal activities be monitored, according to The Guardian.

He requested in the June 17, 2026, plea that the EFCC investigate whether the cash supporting their operations originate from legitimate and transparent sources.

Concerns over adherence to financial reporting, tax laws, and other operational norms were also brought up by the attorney.
