The appointment of a new Chief of Staff at Government House in Port Harcourt and a new Secretary to the Rivers State Government has been authorized by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to Naija News, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor’s chief press secretary, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Sunny Ewule was nominated as the new Chief of Staff and Dagogo Wokoma as the new Secretary to the State Government.

According to the announcement, both appointments are effective right away.

Additionally, it said that the two officials would be sworn in at the Executive Council Chamber of Government House in Port Harcourt at 2:00 pm.

The prior office holders were removed without a formal explanation.

Benibo Anabraba is replaced by the new Secretary to the State Government, while Edison Ehie is replaced by the new Chief of Staff.

In the months after the state’s political unrest, Ehie’s participation had gained prominence.

A disagreement between the governor and his erstwhile political friend, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, made matters worse.

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly took action to impeach the governor as a result of the crisis.

But after President Bola Tinubu intervened to defuse the situation and promote harmony amongst the parties, the action was put on hold.

The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, declared at plenary that the impeachment procedure against the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been discontinued after the President’s involvement.

Prior to these most recent appointments, Governor Fubara had already dismissed all of his Special Advisers and disbanded his eight-member cabinet.
