Following Monday’s disruption that injured 26 passengers, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the complete restoration of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail track.
According to Naija News, Kayode Opeifa, the company’s managing director, revealed this on Wednesday, promising commuters better operating and safety standards.
Opeifa verified that operations had resumed following prompt action by NRC staff in a post on his 𝕏 account.
“Normal train operations have been fully restored following the incident on Monday, March 16, 2026, thanks to the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s prompt intervention,” he stated.
Improved safety and operational procedures have been put in place to guarantee safe and comfortable travel, so passengers may now order tickets with confidence.
He continued by saying that the company’s quick action guaranteed little interruption to services and reaffirmed its dedication to passenger safety.
Additionally, the company stated that the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service return trip from Rigasa in Kaduna State had successfully resumed, indicating a return to normalcy for commuters along the congested route.
“With the assistance of HRH (Alhaji) Ishaq Ibrahim Tanko, Hakimin Idu District Head, Abuja, we are also happy to welcome passengers on the AKTS return trip from Rigasa, Kaduna State, yesterday, March 17, 2026,” Opeifa said.
Train services are now better, safer, and back to usual.
The incident happened on Monday at around 9:16 a.m. close to Asham Station on the Abuja-Kaduna rail route.
After leaving Rigasa, the impacted train—designated as KA2—made a planned stop at Jere before continuing on.
The NRC claims that when the train was moving after departing Jere, where a second rear locomotive had been attached, the locomotive came loose.
The power car and the final passenger coach were reportedly struck when it slid forward and struck the back of the train.
The company stated that the event did not involve a collision between two different trains, despite early allegations to the contrary.
Instead, it characterized the incident as an internal operational problem in which a detached locomotive struck a portion of the same train.
Opeifa emphasized that since then, improved safety and operational procedures have been put in place to stop a repeat.
As operations stabilize throughout the route, he urged passengers to continue travel with confidence, reiterating the NRC’s commitment to provide dependable and secure rail services.
