Residents of Kwara run for the bush as gunmen enter the area and intermittently fire.

The Edu Local Government Area in Kwara State has been overrun by suspected terrorists.

Sahara Reporters reports that the attackers broke into the neighborhood on Sunday and started shooting at the locals.

According to sources who spoke to the aforementioned publication, locals fled for their lives on Sunday after hearing loud gunfire reverberating across the neighborhood.

Large numbers of assailants reportedly assaulted the region, shooting intermittently as they passed through various portions of the town.

According to a local source, the gunfire reverberated for hours, trapping some inhabitants within while others fled into the bushes.

The number of people slain or taken is still unknown. “It’s a terrifying situation,” the insider stated.

The attack is the most recent in a concerning string of violent events that have occurred in the Edu Local Government Area.

Prior attacks in the region have caused property damage, fatalities, and kidnappings, which has sparked new worries about security in some areas of Kwara State.

In the meantime, three soldiers were killed by Boko Haram in Adamawa State’s Hong Usman Inuwa Wa’aganda local government area.

According to Naija News, the suspects set fire to the village’s primary school and the military barracks during their raid on the Garaha District.

Around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, militants stormed the community from many directions, including the Dabna and Lar axes, according to the local government chairman, who spoke to Leadership.

Despite their caution and early resistance, the military men were reportedly taken by surprise by the terrorists’ intermittent firing.

Speaking as an eyewitness, Reverend Isaiah Yeriman described how the rebels overran the military base.

He stated, “Unfortunately, the entire military camp was invaded and burned down, but the military men were set and alerted and started exchanging gunshots in an effort to repel them.”

Three military members were killed when the terrorists ambushed the soldiers from behind via the Lar axis, according to Yeriman. While trying to escape the mayhem, a civilian woman was sadly killed by a stray bullet.

Before setting the remaining buildings on fire, the rebels allegedly stole weaponry, including an armored vehicle, from the overrun camp.

“As I speak to you, the Living Faith Church is the only building still standing at the military base,” Yeriman said.

He urged Nigerians to pray for the troops and commended their bravery, emphasizing that they lost everything, including food, clothing, and personal items.

Another unnamed witness raised the possibility of internal treason, claiming that the troops had vigorously fought the attackers at first until a well-planned ambush from behind changed the outcome.
