In Ibadan, hoodlums who are thought to be political thugs have allegedly damaged count boards, sleepers, rails, and signal poles along the Mile One–Odo Ona railway corridor.
The Nigeria Railway Corporation’s Western District Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olawale Ayeni, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the company’s property had been vandalized on Monday.
“We have informed our headquarters, and I am confident that the matter will receive the necessary attention,” Ayeni stated.
He claimed that the Railway Police had been made aware of the situation as well.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) discovered that a local government official in the city of Ibadan was in charge of the gangs that damaged the NRC’s property.
According to a witness at the scene, the official asserted that the local government had the right to clear buildings and facilities on railway land for commercial development.
According to the source, the operation was conducted even though the LG official had been summoned to the visible rail rails and installations, which denoted the property of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
The group at the location reportedly defied attempts by Nigerian Railway Police Command personnel to stop the activity.
The chairman was not available for remark, according to Mrs. Kehinde Adediran, the Ibadan South West Local Government’s Information Officer.
“At fifty, he is occupied in Oyo State’s activities. Adediran stated, “I am not aware of the incident and cannot comment on the chairman’s behalf.”
