Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, refuted accusations that he despises Northerners, stating on Channels Television on Sunday that he maintains close relations to the area.

Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress’s (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, has made it clear that he gets along well with residents of the country’s northern area.
When Obi refuted claims that he had made divisive comments regarding Northern Nigerians, he clarified the situation.
The former governor of Anambra State denied claims that his administration would widen rifts in the nation during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday.
He claimed to have continuously participated in humanitarian efforts around the area.
According to Naija News, Obi cited his lengthy ties to northern areas to bolster his claims, citing multiple trips to states plagued by humanitarian problems and instability.
The former governor responded, “That’s a lie,” to the accusation that he made a divisive speech against the north. It never took place.
He also related how, after his brother was killed, he went to Borno State in the early days of the Boko Haram conflict to comfort former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff.
“His own brother was killed at the beginning of this Boko Haram issue.” To comfort him, I traveled to Borno State. “I went to Borno State when people refused to go there,” he remarked.
Obi also recounted visiting internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, meeting with the state governor and Borno Shehu, and donating ₦50 million when in Borno following the state’s devastating floods.
He claims that he has visited various northern states, including Katsina, Kebbi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Sokoto, as part of his humanitarian endeavors.
“I have visited the most unstable regions of the North… He stated, “I’ve visited the different impacted communities in Benue up to four times. I spent Christmas and New Year’s in IDP camps.”
Obi added that a Muslim from the north served as his Aide de Camp (ADC) while he was governor.
“My ADC is a Muslim from Kano,” he remarked.
The NDC presidential candidate went on to say that during his eight years as governor of Anambra State, all of his chefs were from the north and that his administration supported the state’s Muslim residents’ yearly pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.
He stated, “As governor, I was funding the Hajj for Muslims residing in Anambra.”
As evidence of his dedication to the well-being of northerners and national cohesion, he also cited his present support for Almajiri schools in Kano and Bauchi as well as a School of Nursing in Bauchi.
