Obi in Onitsha is visited by an EU ambassador.

Gautier Mignot, the ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria, paid a visit to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, on Wednesday at his home in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to Naija News, Obi revealed the visit by posting a picture of himself and the envoy wearing similar Igbo traditional clothing on his 𝕏 Twitter.

He said the engagement was productive.

Obi remarked, “It was an enriching meeting as we shared some useful conversations,” adding that hosting the diplomat was an honor and a privilege.

He did not, however, provide the specifics of the conversation.

Obi is currently a member of the African Democratic Congress, and the visit coincides with political realignments ahead of the 2027 national elections.

One of the top candidates for the party’s presidential ticket is the former governor of Anambra.

Obi also hosted a breakfast meeting with foreign diplomats last week in Abuja, including those from France, Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The development is a reflection of continued interaction between diplomats and political actors.
