Obasanjo Explains Why He Became Close To Charly Boy Despite Wearing “Jaga Jaga”

Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president, revealed that despite Charly Boy’s unusual lifestyle, he liked the well-known Nigerian performer.

The former president said he didn’t like Charly Boy when he first met him in an interview on the Before Tomorrow Comes Podcast that was uploaded on YouTube on Thursday.

He considered his relationship with his father, the late Supreme Court Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, his longstanding acquaintance with Charlie Boy’s family, and how his opinion of the performer evolved over time.

“I was close to Charlie Boy’s father, Justice Oputa,” he declared. The late Justice Oputa was one Nigerian I could call a friend and one I admired, but I don’t have many friends or individuals I would say I admire.

“After that, I started seeing Charlie Boy, who is allegedly Justice Oputa’s son. Justice Oputa is respectable, tidy, proud, and well-groomed. Then I noticed Charlie Boy, the son of Oputa.

He was clad in jaga jaga. “Look, how can an adult dress like this?” I exclaimed. I therefore didn’t give Charlie Boy much thought.

He claimed that he purposefully mocked the performer because he thought the son of a well-known Supreme Court justice would emulate his father’s refined appearance and manner.

He claimed that finding the late justice at Charlie Boy’s house during his visit was the pivotal moment.

“I wanted to visit him once. And how did I locate him? Charlie Boy’s home is where I discovered him.

Naturally, when you enter Charlie Boy’s home, you notice him riding a motorcycle, living in his own home, and dressed like a warrior. However, Charlie Boy’s approach to caring for his father really impressed me.

Charlie Boy would not have taken greater care of his father than I witnessed, even if he had been ten times as well-groomed.

I was therefore drawn to Charlie Boy. Then it dawned on me that Charlie Boy’s jaga jaga pranks, his mediated actions of being a comedian and earning money from his attire, and his demeanor are all components of entertainment and humor. I was therefore drawn to Charlie Boy,” Obasanjo remarked.

He claimed that this admiration intensified following Justice Oputa’s passing.

Obasanjo also grew close to Charlie Boy’s mother, whom he called a “moral woman.”

He observed that Charlie Boy gave his mother a “decent goodbye that any child could give” upon her passing and that he loved her even more than he did his father.

Since then, Obasanjo claimed to have learnt to see past the performer’s quirky look and “jaga-jaga dresses,” seeing them as an integral part of his humorous persona.

Charlie Boy and I grew close. I so stopped caring about his jaga jaga attire. For me, it was a part of creating life.

Charlie Boy then came over to me. And I came to see that Charlie Boy’s life has a lot to teach us, especially about his parents, especially his father.

“How could his father put up with him when he wasn’t following his father’s wishes? The father would not approve if he became a singer or comic instead of a lawyer. However, he made the decision to make a life decision. He kept it up.

He also taught his father how to cope with it. And as I mentioned earlier, Charlie Boy became to be his father’s favorite in the latter years of his life. “I am aware of that,” he remarked.

The former military commander, who is frequently spotted interacting amicably with the performer, said that Charlie Boy’s connection with his father serves as a lesson for parents, advising them to guide their kids while letting them follow non-criminal routes that are authentic to who they are.
