NLNG presents the Nigeria Prizes’ new visual identities.

Written by Prisca Sam-Duru

NLNG unveiled the new visual brand elements for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, and the recently launched The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts at a very motivating press conference in Lagos on Thursday, January 29, 2026, marking a new stage in the development of Nigeria’s leading platforms for intellectual and creative excellence.

The spinning pages of a book serve as the inspiration for The Nigeria Prize for Literature’s logo. Rendered in layered green forms, it symbolises creativity in motion, stories developing, voices rising, and ideas taking flight. The fluid curves reflect storytelling in all its forms, including fiction, poetry, theater, and prose, while the green hue reflects rejuvenation, learning, and the fertile landscape of Nigerian literature. With a sense of serene dynamism that appeals to introspection, conversation, and the eternal life of the written word, the gradient implies growth, following the progression of ideas from seed to story.

The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation logo is made up of intersecting blue orbits that represent electron channels, atomic energy, and celestial motion. The blue-lime color scheme represents curiosity, intelligence, and the search for truth, while the circular design communicates continuity and the limitless nature of scientific investigation. The identity honors those who go beyond the known to create a future driven by knowledge and creativity and highlights Nigeria’s dedication to evidence-based research and innovation.

The Nigerian Prize for Creative Arts logo’s lime-green spiral, which stands for creativity, innovation, and continuity, completes the trio. The Prize encompasses a wide range of artistic fields, and its flexible form reflects the dynamic character of the creative process. While the lime-green color scheme denotes freshness, optimism, and innovation, the spiral’s motion communicates rhythm, progress, and connectivity.

The change comes after NLNG recently updated its corporate logo and aligned its visual assets with contemporary design principles. The Nigeria Prizes are positioned for the future by the redesigned logos, which together express a cohesive vision that honors intellectual rigor, creative excellence, and the transformative power of ideas. They also reaffirm The Nigeria Prizes’ status as leaders in thought leadership, cultural relevance, and national pride.

The Nigeria Prize for Literature and The Nigeria Prize for Science have had a constant visual identity since their founding in 2004, which has contributed to the development of great brand equity. The updated identities, which build on this solid heritage, show a purposeful progression that enhances the Prizes’ position as key forces behind intellectual, creative, and national influence.

Speaking during the unveiling, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Sophia Horsfall, described the new visual identities as a deliberate repositioning of the prizes to ensure continuing relevance and global resonance. She pointed out that NLNG’s dedication to advancing intellectual and creative capital as vital catalysts for sustainable development is reinforced by the updated logos.

The Nigeria Prizes have been autonomous representations of quality and national ambition for more than 20 years. This is a thoughtful, forward-thinking overhaul. It safeguards the rewards’ past while putting them in a position to be more recognizable, visible, and in line with international criteria of distinction going forward, according to Horsfall.

“Ideas shape societies, and societies that invest in ideas secure their future,” she continued, adding that innovative ideas continue to be essential to the advancement of the country. Our conviction that literature, science, and innovation are essential to Nigeria’s progress is reinforced by these new identities.

Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, Chairperson of the Advisory Board for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, commented on the significance of the new visual identities of the prizes, saying that the emblem embodies the enduring power of Nigerian narrative.

The turning pages serve as a reminder that our tales are ongoing, grounded in the past yet ever evolving. Nigerian literature has never been static, and this character confirms its function as a dynamic force influencing cultural memory, conscience, and intellectual processes,” she stated. The design, she continued, makes it clear to authors and thinkers that their opinions are valued and that creativity is still essential to our shared future.

According to Prof. Barth Nnaji, Chairman of the Advisory Board for The Nigerian Prize for Science and Innovation, the Science and Innovation logo reflects the ambition, discipline, and rigor needed for national transformation.

“Movement, inquiry, testing, and pushing boundaries are all part of science.” This identity captures the spirit that Nigeria needs to adopt in order to industrialize, compete, and overcome difficult obstacles. He stated, “The Prize continues to be an essential platform for recognizing ongoing and purposeful innovation.”

Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at NLNG, concluded by highlighting how much the event has rekindled the company’s dedication to promoting excellence through The Nigeria Prizes.

“These prizes have continuously sparked discussions, acknowledged talent, stimulated creativity, and supported ideas that have a genuine impact on society, from the literary community to scientific research.”

Today’s mission has shown that visual identity is rarely solely a question of aesthetics. Deep meaning is conveyed by logos, which stand for our accomplishments, experiences, and high ideals. They show the assurance of an organization that respects its past while embracing its future obligations.

Indeed, scientific discoveries, classic literary works, and critical thinking that inspire ideas throughout Nigeria and beyond have all been featured in the Nigeria Prizes logos. They stand for influence, dedication, and advancement. This heritage is carried on by what we have revealed today,” she continued.
