Lagos reports that the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be partially closed.

To allow the Federal Ministry of Works to perform necessary repair work on failing road segments, the Lagos State Government has declared a partial traffic closure on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

This was said in a statement released on Tuesday by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.

Osiyemi pointed out that both inbound and outgoing lanes would be impacted by the rehabilitation, which would span the distance from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate.

“Over the course of four weeks, the rehabilitation work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 11, and conclude on Wednesday, March 11,” he stated.

He stated that the project would be carried out in two stages to minimize traffic inconvenience.

Phase 1 (traffic heading to Abeokuta), scope of work (U-Turn Bus Stop near Sango Tollgate), and duration (three weeks): Wednesday, February 11 to Wednesday, March 4.

Traffic from Lagos/Abule-Egba inbound to Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate will be rerouted to one half of the roadway during this phase, around 20 meters from the active work zone. Full access will be restored after the work area is finished.

One lane at a time will undergo rehabilitation. Traffic will be redirected to the restored stretch after the first half is finished, and construction on the second half will begin.

“Free traffic flow will continue to be enjoyed by motorists on the Lagos-bound carriageway,” he stated.

According to him, phase two (Lagos-bound traffic) will involve work from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction and would last for one week, from Wednesday, March 4 to Wednesday, March 11.

According to him, during this phase, traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate heading into Lagos/Abule-Egba would be rerouted via one side of the road, approximately 20 meters away from the work zone. Following the construction area, regular traffic flow would resume.

Similar to phase one, the work will be done in phases, and once it is finished, traffic will be rerouted to the completed areas.

He declared, “Motorists on the carriageway headed for Abeokuta will continue to move without interruption.”

He gave drivers his word that sufficient traffic control measures will be implemented for the duration of the project.

Additionally, he counseled drivers to cooperate with on-duty traffic officers, follow traffic signs, and plan their trips appropriately.

As these necessary repairs are made for the benefit of all road users, the ministry asks for the patience and understanding of the driving public,” he stated.
