Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) 2023 presidential contender, called the most recent attack on Plateau State “barbaric and shameful.”
According to Naija News, Kwankwaso attributed the attack in Jos and other regions of the nation on a lack of leadership in a statement sent on Tuesday through his 𝕏 account.
However, he stated that this cannot continue since all Nigerians, regardless of their race or religion, should be able to live in peace, security, and dignity.
The former governor of Kano State expressed sympathy to people impacted by the most recent incident and urged all tiers of government to declare a national emergency instead of handling security-related issues as normal.
“The savage attack on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Nigerians and numerous injuries, is yet another tragic and shameful chapter in our nation’s history,” he wrote.
“This needless carnage is a symbol of the leadership’s ongoing failure and the growing culture of impunity that has transformed some areas of our nation into killing fields. It is no longer possible to ignore the ongoing violence in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria. It demands to be handled as the national emergency that the federal and state governments have declared.
Regardless of their race or religion, all of our people have the right to live in safety, security, and dignity.
“In this time of deep sorrow, my sincere condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victims, the injured, and the entire Gari Ya Waye community.”
