A 35-year-old man has been detained by the Yobe State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl in Babbangida town, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
In response to a distress report, Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters officers detained Aliyu Yarima of Potiskum Local Government Area on Monday, according to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect reportedly attracted the girl on January 16, 2026, and gave her a soft drink laced with heavy drugs, rendering her comatose.
After that, he allegedly raped her at his home. The victim apparently delayed reporting the event due to severe inside injuries.
According to SP Abdulkarim, “she was later rushed to the General Hospital, Babbangida, where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.”
According to the police, investigations are underway and the suspect will face charges in court when they are finished.
Stressing the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable people, SP Abdulkarim asked the public to report cases of sexual abuse and other criminal actions as soon as possible to the closest police station.
