If fresh protests break out, Iran Guards promise a “stronger” crackdown than in January.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the military’s ideological wing, issued a warning on Friday that any further demonstrations against the government would be greeted with a worse punishment than the thousands of people killed in January.

In a statement aired on television, the Guards said, “The evil enemy, failing to achieve its field battle goals, is once again pursuing the instillation of fear and street riots,” pledging “a stronger blow than on January 8” in the case of fresh unrest.

Two weeks into Iran’s conflict with the United States and Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states that one of the goals is to “create, for the Iranian people, the conditions to bring down” the Iranian regime.

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has also urged Iranians to topple their government.

Protests against Iran’s exorbitant cost of living evolved into a widespread movement against the government in December.

On January 8, it peaked with what Iranian officials referred to as “riots,” which they attributed to “terrorists” acting on behalf of the US and Israel.

Iranian authorities have officially reported approximately 3,000 deaths, with the administration claiming that the great majority were either bystanders or members of security forces.

The security personnel have been accused by foreign-based NGOs of firing on protesters on purpose.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, around 7,000 people perished.

In 1979, Iran established an Islamic republic.
