A National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc official, four students, and the principal were kidnapped by gunmen who invaded Government Secondary School, Olowa, in Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area.
According to reports, the attack happened on Tuesday at around 5:25 p.m. when students were taking a continuing NECO exam.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama was informed by security sources that the six victims were taken to an undisclosed place after the armed men broke into the school and caused panic among the personnel and kids.
A combined group of security personnel started a search and rescue effort after the assault and started pursuing the kidnappers.
One of the four children had been saved, according to sources, and the principal, the NECO official, and the other three students were being liberated.
The circumstances behind the student’s rescue were not made public right away.
According to reports, security forces have started conducting extensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and bush-combing activities in the neighborhoods surrounding the school.
Finding the kidnappers’ hideout, saving the surviving captives, and capturing the perpetrators are the objectives of the operation.
The security operation, according to the authorities, is still in place while attempts are made to bring the region back to normal.
