Kaduna — The release of 82 worshippers who were kidnapped by bandits on January 18, 2026, during a church service in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area, has been confirmed by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
While visiting the liberated victims at the Kaduna State Women and Children Shelter, where they are presently receiving medical care and mental support, the governor made the revelation on Wednesday.
Remember that 177 members of the community were kidnapped by bandits during a worship session. Before the most recent development, 166 victims remained in captivity after eleven were previously freed.
In addition to expressing sorrow for the victims’ plight, Governor Sani informed Kurmin Wali’s citizens that coordinated efforts were being made to achieve the release of those who were still in the hands of the kidnappers. He was hopeful that the remaining prisoners would be set free in the next few days.
The governor remarked, “I visited our brothers and sisters from Kurmin Wali who have returned from the clutches of banditry with a heavy yet hopeful heart.” “I am encouraged by their positive response to treatment, and they are receiving both medical care and psychosocial support.” They will eventually be deemed fit to rejoin with their families and resume their regular lives.
He characterized the interaction as profoundly touching, pointing out that despite the pain they experienced, the survivors’ fortitude, optimism, and professions of gratitude to the state government demonstrated their strength of character and unwavering hope.
Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast commitment to putting an end to abduction and banditry throughout Kaduna State, emphasizing that no effort will be spared until all kidnapped individuals are safely released and reunited with their families.
Along with praising security services for their bravery, quick thinking, and commitment to fighting criminal groups, he urged locals to keep assisting law enforcement in bringing about long-lasting peace in the impacted areas.
The governor said that he had formally asked the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Defense Staff to create a military base in Kurmin Wali as part of steps to improve security in the region.
“This crucial action will greatly improve security in Kurmin Wali and the surrounding area, reaffirming our commitment to save lives, bring about peace, and preserve the dignity of every Kaduna State resident,” he said.
