Ghana renames Accra’s international airport

The Ghanaian government has made the decision to rename the capital’s international airport from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.

According to a statement from the ministry of transportation, the name change would be implemented by updating official documents, statutory instruments if needed, airport signage, aviation publications, and digital platforms in a methodical manner.

According to the announcement, “the government has deemed it appropriate to restore the airport to its former and internationally recognized name.”

According to the statement, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s records still use the former name, Accra International Airport (ACC), as the official designation.

To remember Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, who was killed in a failed coup attempt in 1967 at what is now the airport’s forecourt, the airport was renamed Kotoka International Airport in 1969.(NAN/Xinhua)
