Gabaya, the chairman of the FCT Council, switches from the PDP to the APC

John Gabaya, the departing Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory’s Bwari Area Council, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Naija News, Gabaya made the announcement in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Ernest Agada, and released on Tuesday in Abuja.

The chairman stated in the statement that the decision was made to increase the council’s development efforts by working more closely with the federal government.

According to him, the action is also a component of political realignments in front of the general elections in 2027.

“I have fully embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in Bwari Area Council, Abuja,” Gabaya declared.

Extensive stakeholder consultations followed in order to ensure long-term council development and improve partnerships with the federal government.

On the PDP platform, Gabaya was elected chairman of the council in 2019 and is scheduled to serve out his second term in June.

In the 2027 elections, he is presently running to represent the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the House of Representatives.

The chairman of the council clarified that he decided to defect following discussions with stakeholders and prayers. He went on to say that the ruling also adhered to the constitutional rules governing political parties.

Gabaya thanked everyone who helped him become chairman while he was a PDP member.

He said that his defection should not be interpreted as animosity toward former party members and praised their dedication and effort.

The chairman of the council also voiced hope for a calm and reliable election in 2027.

He added that President Bola Tinubu would have tremendous backing from the Bwari Area Council during the upcoming election cycle.
