President Bola Tinubu has authorized the hiring of 50 physicians and 100 nurses for the country’s correctional facilities, according to Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
When Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, made Tunji-Ojo a courtesy visit in Abuja on Tuesday, he revealed this.
The minister stated that the lack of medical staff in certain prisons prompted the president’s permission.
He said that there was no physician available to treat the prisoners at the Rivers correctional facility’s hospital.
He claims that major surgery is possible with the equipment in some of the detention facilities, such as Kuje.
“The President is aware that he represents all Nigerians, including those prisoners. He has consistently demonstrated his concern as a father to everyone, he added.
According to the minister, the Federal Government has been using train-the-trainer programs to train prisoners.
Through what we refer to as “train the trainer,” we have been able to increase capacity. We conducted what are known as “inmate skills audits.” We visited our jail facilities to find out what skills these prisoners possessed.
“You now have the authority to instruct others. We empower those who graduate.
We’ve managed to sanitize. Additionally, he claimed that the president’s 50% increase in their eating allowance was too successful.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the necessity for the Ministry of Information and National Reorientation to present and inform the Nigerian public of the accomplishments documented by the Ministry of Interior.
“We would like you to visit and witness some of the accomplishments we have made.
Additionally, we would like to work with you more on our national security strategy in order to have a synchronized communication plan.
“In partnership with the Ministry of Solid Minerals, NSCDC has established what we refer to as the mine marshals. We are now protecting our minefields.
“And it is evident that the effect is present. Violence and criminality have decreased in this industry. Additionally, he stated, “protection of vital national assets.”
To better communication between the Federal Government and Nigerians, the Minister of Information and National Orientation called for increased cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
Idris promised to inform the public about the reforms carried out by the ministry.
It is our responsibility to make sure that the Nigerian people hear and support all we and the administration do. We are principally responsible for this,” he stated. (NAN)
