Following the recent attack on Angwan Rukuba in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has promised that measures have been taken to maintain lasting peace and restore calm.
During a countrywide broadcast on Tuesday, he provided the assurance in the wake of Sunday’s terrible incident that claimed the lives of numerous civilians.
The governor, who estimated that 28 people had died in the tragedy, promised that Plateau State will not give in to intimidation or fear.
“After the terrible security incident in Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in the deaths of 28 innocent people, I speak to you today with a heavy heart and deep grief.
“Plateau State will not give in to intimidation or fear.” He declared, “We will come out stronger, unified, and determined in our commitment to peace.”
Mutfwang said that the victims were law-abiding people who were taken by surprise and described the incident as senseless.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his sincere sympathies to those impacted while revealing that security forces had been called in and a 48-hour curfew had been put in place in Jos North to allow for comprehensive operations.
In order to evaluate the situation, Mutfwang said he went to the attack site with security chiefs. He said that the visit gave him “critical insights into strengthening our preventive measures against future occurrences.”
Additionally, the governor paid victims a visit at the Jos University Teaching Hospital and expressed hope for their recuperation.
He also said that their medical costs would be covered by the government.
Around 7:30 p.m., the enemies of peace launched this pointless assault.
He promised that “the Plateau State Government will take full responsibility for the medical expenses of the injured,” adding, “I am encouraged by reports that most are in stable condition.”
In addition, the Governor revealed that a suspect had been detained in relation to the incident and promised that justice will be done.
He declared, “We are dedicated to making sure that everyone involved in this horrible act is brought to justice as soon as possible.”
He promised the deceased’s families government support, including respectable funerals and help for dependents.
He continued, “We stand firmly with you and shall continue to provide the necessary support.”
The Governor also ordered that the Jos Greater Master Plan’s prohibition on commercial motorcycle activities be strictly enforced, pointing out that this is a step in the direction of bolstering security.
While assuring them of his administration’s dedication to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property, he also urged cooperation from the locals.
“To restore peace, prosecute offenders, and stop any repeat, we will continue to collaborate closely with security services.
He declared, “This tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the need for unity, vigilance, and collective responsibility.”
