Aide raises concerns that El-Rufai’s attorneys had not heard back from the ICPC on their bail application.

According to Muyiwa Adekeye, the media adviser to Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, his principal has not heard back from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) regarding his bail request.

According to Naija News, El-Rufai was held till the evening of Wednesday, February 18, after voluntarily reporting to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at which point he was moved to the ICPC.

Adekeye’s attorneys claim that even though the 48-hour period for detaining someone without charge has passed, they have not received a remand order.

El-Rufai will be arraigned on February 25 on accusations brought by the Department of State Services, according to a post made by Adekeye on 𝕏 on Monday.

His fundamental rights complaint against the Federal Government, the ICPC, the EFCC, and the DSS is scheduled to be heard by the Federal Capital Territory High Court on the same day. The court is seeking an order to admit him to bail.

Adekeye wrote, “Malam Nasir El-Rufai has been in custody for eight days now. In response to an invitation, he willingly showed up at the EFCC early on Monday, February 16, 2026. He was initially detained by the EFCC, who held him until Wednesday, February 18, the night before he was transferred to the ICPC.

As of right now, his attorneys have not heard back from the ICPC on their bail request, and they have not been presented with a remand order because the 48-hour period for detaining an individual without charges has passed.

At least two cases involving Malam El-Rufai will be heard by the courts this week. His fundamental rights complaint against the Federal Government, the ICPC, the EFCC, and the DSS will be heard on February 25. An order to admit him to bail is sought in this case before the FCT High Court.

On the same day, he is expected to be arraigned on the widely reported accusations brought by the DSS.
