Obi Aguocha, the member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, has disclosed that his unwavering demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the troubled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has come at a significant personal and political cost.
Aguocha claimed that his attitude had led to losses and unfavorable profiling, but he maintained that he had no remorse about what he had done.
“As a member of the House of Representatives, I am aware of what I have lost by standing up for Nnamdi Kanu and other constitutional issues, the positions I have taken,” he declared.
The congressman revealed that he has been marginalized and labeled in some circles as a result of his ongoing advocacy.
Aguocha continued, “I know what I am losing now because they have marked me, “okay he is always on this side,” but I don’t regret it at all.”
He insisted that his stance was motivated by a dedication to justice and conviction.
Aguocha went on to say that Kanu had given him the only authority to negotiate his release, characterizing the action as an act of confidence.
He claims that the permission shows how confident the imprisoned IPOB leader is in his work.
Additionally, certain South-East politicians were criticized by the federal lawmaker for reportedly avoiding conversations about Kanu’s incarceration and other general issues impacting the Igbo people.
He urged authorities in the area to confront urgent problems with more bravery and solidarity.
Aguocha compared the strategy used by Yoruba leaders to secure Sunday Igboho’s release and urged Igbo leaders to follow suit.
He emphasized that in order to attain comparable outcomes for Kanu, a concerted and unified effort is required.
However, the legislator commended Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, for organizing governors in the South-East to support Kanu’s release.
He saw the action as a constructive step that would encourage wider support.
Aguocha also offered his opinion on upcoming elections, predicting that Otti would defeat Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, in the 2027 governorship battle.
