A representative for the City Boy Movement stated, “We are not political jobbers looking for appointments.”

Emana Amawhe, the spokesperson for the City Boy Movement, has denied allegations that the organization is a platform for political support created to get appointments for its members. He maintains that the movement is open to Nigerians from all walks of life and is committed to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda in the run-up to the 2027 elections.

In an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, Amawhe addressed common misconceptions that the movement functions as a reward-based political system or an exclusive club.

You labor for Mr. President so that you can eventually receive some sort of reward since most people think the City Boy Movement is an exclusive club or reward support group structure,” she stated.

She disputed the story, emphasizing that the organization transcends both professional and social boundaries.

But the City Boy Movement is open to all Nigerians, including politicians like me, entrepreneurs, artists, and creatives, Amawhe stated.

She claims that the majority of the movement’s members are self-sufficient individuals who are already well-established in their various professions.

“From the top to the bottom of the City Boy Movement’s structure, the majority of its members are professionals with a solid reputation, successful businesspeople, and highly accomplished individuals in their respective fields,” she stated.

Amawhe pointed out that she and many of the other members had separate jobs and public records that are unrelated to partisan politics.

“These are people who have first addresses, like myself. Two years ago, I was an elected official. I think I’ve got an address. “Being a politician is not my only job,” she stated.

She emphasized that the group should not be interpreted as a collection of people looking to get government jobs.

Therefore, political jobbers vying for political posts are not the focus of the City Boy Movement, Amawhe said.

Although she acknowledged that certain members would eventually be given consideration for public office, she maintained that eligibility and competence should be the only criteria used to determine such chances.

In the event that appointments ultimately arise, you should inquire as to whether the cap fits. “Is it just a way to reward people for participating in politics, or is it the right peg plugged in the right hole?” she said.

“I promise you that’s not the main goal of the City Boy Movement.”
