167 Senior Officers Face Disciplinary Action from the Police

Due to suspected misbehavior and violations of professional standards, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has initiated disciplinary actions against 167 senior officers.

The purpose of the exercise, which is being carried out by the Force Disciplinary Committee at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is to assess pending cases involving officers who hold the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police or higher.

The committee is required to thoroughly review each case in accordance with established laws and regulations, according to Force spokesperson Anthony Placid.

“The Nigeria Police Force has started the sitting of the FDC to review pending disciplinary matters involving 167 senior police officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and other related offenses,” he stated.

According to Placid, the committee is a crucial internal tool for managing senior officer disciplinary matters.

“The Force Disciplinary Committee… is responsible for the review and determination of cases involving senior officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above,” he stated.

“The process ensures a thorough, transparent, and fair examination of all matters in accordance with extant laws and regulations, with appropriate recommendations to the Police Service Commission,” he continued.

According to Olatunji Disu, Inspector-General of Police, the exercise demonstrates the Force’s dedication to professionalism and accountability.

He emphasized that due process would be applied to any officer found guilty.

The statement stated, “The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, noting that no officer found guilty of misconduct will be shielded from due process.”

According to the IGP, the disciplinary actions are a part of continuous changes meant to improve internal control systems and rebuild public trust.

“The ongoing disciplinary proceedings form part of broader institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal control mechanisms, promoting ethical conduct, and enhancing public confidence in the Force,” he stated.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high levels of accountability and service.

The statement went on, “The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its resolve to uphold the highest standards of accountability and service, ensuring that all officers conduct themselves in line with the core values of the profession.”
