
A number of well-known celebrities in Nigeria’s entertainment sector have converted to Islam and taken Muslim names.
According to Naija News, some people converted to Islam as a result of marriage, but others did so as a result of their own spiritual quests and a need for meaning.
Five well-known celebrities who converted from Christianity to Islam are highlighted in this Niaja News article.
- Burna Boy: In an interview with American streamer Playboymax in 2025, Nigerian Grammy Award winner Damini Ogulu, best known by his stage as Burna Boy, stated that his quest for the truth led him to convert from Christianity to Islam.
The “Stand Tall” crooner clarified that he was brought up as a Christian due to his upbringing and his parents’ beliefs.
He acknowledged, though, that his decision to convert to Islam has only raised more problems than it has answered and that, in spite of his religious research, he is still unsure about spiritual reality.
- Mercy Aigbe: In 2023, Mercy Aigbe, a Nollywood actress, talked of embracing Islam and adopting the Islamic name Hajia Minnah.
Due to her marriage to Nollywood film producer Kazim Adeoti, who is also a Muslim, the actress acknowledged that she converted to Islam.
- Priscilla Ojo: Daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, Priscilla Ojo is a Nigerian social media personality who converted from Christianity to Islam after marrying Tanzanian singer Juma Jux. Jux, who practices Islam.
The couple exchanged vows in opulent weddings in Tanzania and Nigeria. Priscilla Ojo is now Hadizah Mkambala after she converted to Islam and married the Tanzanian singer.
- Adebimpe Oyebade: Nollywood actress Bimpe Oyebade, better known by her stage name Mo Bimpe, converted to Islam in 2021 after marrying Lateef Adedimeji, a Muslim coworker, and formally announcing Rahmatullah as her new name.
The actress revealed that her parents first opposed their marriage because of religious issues in a video that was posted on her Instagram page at the time.
Bimpe claims that her father especially objected to her marrying a Muslim, but after the actor met with her parents, they were given permission to get married.
- Faithia Balogun: Originally from a Roman Catholic family, Nollywood actress Faithia Balogun changed her faith after marrying her coworker Saidi Balogun.
She took on the Muslim name Fathia and is known as “Atesin Se Adinni,” an Islamic chieftaincy title.
