Asake’s mother said, “I gathered money to send him abroad, but he refused.”

Ahmed Ololade, better known by his stage name Asake, is a Nigerian singer whose mother has revealed how he abandoned his ambitions to study in the UK.

According to her, the singer chose to enroll at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

She said that she had previously secured money and an international passport for him to study overseas when she told the tale on Korty EO’s YouTube program.

She claims that when Asake insisted on going to OAU, she was taken aback.

She was persuaded and Asake’s admittance to the institution was made possible by a family friend, well-known Yoruba actor Muyideen Oladapo, also known as Lala.

She admitted she was hesitant at first, unsure if she could manage his strong-willed personality, but agreed after Lala reassured her.

Asake later acknowledged that his decision to study performing arts at OAU helped to shape his creativity.

“I decided to gather money here and there and told him to go to the UK because he was stubborn,” she stated. His international passport was in my possession.

“Iya Ahmed, they asked me to go to school, I want to go to school,” he said as he barged into my business one day.

Asake also discussed the significance of his Yoruba nickname, Giran, which means “stubborn,” on the program.
