The 71-year-old Emmy-winning actress Catherine O’Hara, who starred in “Home Alone” and “Schitt’s Creek,” has away, her management firm announced on Friday.
The comedian, who was born in Canada, also starred in the Hollywood comedy series “The Studio” on Apple TV and “Beetlejuice.”
The actress’s passing was verified to AFP by a person who answered the phone at her manager Marc Gurvitz’s office, but no more information was provided.
O’Hara was taken from her house in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles to the hospital before morning, according to Page Six, which quoted a fire department official.
AFP was unable to verify that right away.

Born in Toronto in 1954, O’Hara joined the renowned comedy troupe Second City alongside Eugene Levy, with whom she would work throughout her career, including on the popular television series “Schitt’s Creek.”
In 1980, she made her film debut in “Double Negative,” starring with John Candy and Levy.
In 1988, she played Winona Ryder’s stepmother in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice.” Later on, she would wed Bo Welch, the production designer for the movie. Luke and Matthew were the couple’s two kids.
However, it wasn’t until 1990 that she gained international recognition as the mother of Macaulay Culkin’s character Kevin in “Home Alone.”
In 2024, she said to People, “It’s a perfect movie, isn’t it?”
“That’s how you go if you want to be a part of something good,” she stated.
Decades before Donald Trump would become US president, she would play the same character again in the movie’s follow-up, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”
She and Burton worked together once more on “The Nightmare before Christmas” in 1993.
But she is perhaps best remembered by current audiences for her appearance in “Schitt’s Creek,” produced by Eugene Levy’s son, Dan Levy.
In reference to her well-known phrase from “Home Alone,” O’Hara told individuals, “I used to mostly get people named Kevin who’d come up to me and ask me to yell ‘Kevin!’ in their faces.”
“Nowadays, Moira, her character, and Schitt’s Creek are the main focus.” Never in my life have I received this kind of attention. It’s absurd.
She won the 2020 Emmy for best lead actress for the part. She also received a SAG Award and a Golden Globe.
Performers reacted quickly as word of her passing spread throughout Hollywood on Friday.
“Mom. Culkin posted a photo of the two of them from “Home Alone” on Instagram along with the caption, “I thought we had time.”
“I desired more.” I wanted to take a seat beside you. I had a lot more to say, but I did hear you. I adore you.
