A late-night collision on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore motorway claims four lives.

A tragic traffic accident that happened late on Monday night along the Ijebu-Ode-Ore expressway in Ogun State has resulted in the verified deaths of four people.

A blue MAN Diesel truck owned by construction behemoth Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and a white Toyota Hiace bus were involved in the collision, which occurred at approximately 11:16 p.m. on the Ijebu-Imushin axis.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said in a statement on Tuesday that all four of the bus’s occupants—two men and two women—perished instantaneously in the crash.

According to the FRSC, the incident was caused by excessive speeding, according to preliminary investigations.

The truck, which was allegedly being towed at the time, became dangerous when the towing chain broke, leaving it still on the road.

The driver of the towing car quickly left the scene, according to the statement, which stated that “the speeding Toyota Hiace bus rammed into the stranded truck, resulting in the fatal crash.”

After receiving distress calls, FRSC emergency responders reached the location in eight minutes. After that, the deceased’s bodies were removed and placed at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.

The vehicles involved have now been taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force’s Imushin Division, and the event is still being investigated.

In response to the incident, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Ogun State Sector Commander, advised drivers to respect speed restrictions, especially at night, and make sure that towing equipment is in good working order.
