Peter Idehen, the ex-husband of Patience Patra Idehen, the lady who ran the once-popular brand Face of Beauty Nigeria, has broken his silence barely two months after she came online to accuse him and his family of fleecing her of all she had and abandoning her and their children.
In the video she shared, Patra said she married her husband when they were both still students at the University of Benin. Though she was a student at the time, she was making so much money from her beauty brand. She said since her partner was just a regular student and wasn’t making any money, she became the breadwinner and did so with so much joy.
She said they began dating in 2017 and got married in 2018 while they were still in school and then welcomed two children in quick succession.
Patra said trouble started last year when she bought a car in her name which got her ex-husband angry. She said she noticed her ex-husband’s countenance changed then and so did his actions towards her. She said her ex-husband then advised her to sell off her new car, so she did and put the money into running their home. Later, they needed cash again and as an understanding wife, she had to sell the house she was building. She said it turned out that her ex-husband’s aunt was the one who bought the house.
She stated that her ex-husband then told her he wanted to study for a course and he needed about a million Naira. It was the last money she had yet she gave it to him.
Patra said after he travelled out of the country to study, he sent her a message that he was not coming back and he had already clocked out of the marriage since 2019 when they were just one year into their marriage. She added that he also abandoned their two kids and she had to beg to feed them.
In a video he released online, Peter denied abandoning Patra and their kids. According to him, he travelled to go and hustle, but he always checked on Patra and the kids and she consistently said everything was okay with them.
‘’First of all, I did not abandon you and the kids. I did not. When I left, it was to go hustle for you and the children. Regardless of the fact that we were not together anymore, I never abandoned my responsibility and I am sorry if you perceived it that way because we are not together and you alone have to go through taking care of the children. I understand that. A lot of things have happened that I was not aware of.
First of all, we didn’t even have that communication. We were not talking on the phone. We communicated via text. Anything you were telling me was via text. When I asked you how are you, you would say you were fine, so I didn’t even know the depth of what you were going through.”
Responding to the allegation that he married Patra because she had money, Peter said;
‘’I knew you had a car but I did not know like the extent to which you had some money. I thought you were a trying babe. If you see a girl who had nice hair and a nice phone, would you think that she is a millionaire? That is the normal thing that girls try to have. It was after we got married you started letting me know the depth….I did not know all these things before we got married. We were in love and that was what led to the marriage. Not because of any other factor. At all. I am a Bini man. I have pride. You know right from time I have never and will never be interested in your money. I have my pride.
For the age thing, I knew you were older than me but I didn’t care. I am a Bini man. In my culture, a woman (wife) shouldn’t be older than her husband, unless we are siblings. In any relationship, the woman is not supposed to be older than in man in Bini culture. So those things didn’t bother me at all.”
Peter denied claims that he asked people to come online to insult her.
‘’You are a very good human being Pat. When we were together, you were good to me. You are a good mother. I know the extent to which you tried for the family when we were together. You are very sacrificial.”
Responding to claims that he sent her only N5000 for the upkeep of their children, Peter said that was all he had at the time. He apologized for all the suffering and pain she is currently facing.
