Due to a delayed recovery from a knee injury, French forward Kylian Mbappé will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League first-leg match against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The 25-year-old Mbappé resumed modest training, but he is still not prepared for competition.
The club announced that he will miss the pivotal European match while he recovers, with expectations now turning to a potential comeback for the second leg the following week.
Mbappé’s campaign has been frequently hampered by a persistent knee issue, according to Naija News. He has now missed Real Madrid’s last three games across all competitions due to the most recent setback, which is the third time this season that the same problem has pushed him out.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player briefly traveled to Paris for specialized therapy in an attempt to hasten his recuperation before returning to Madrid.
Although there had been hope that he may play versus City after returning to training, his absence from Monday’s entire practice hinted otherwise.
For the first leg, even a spot on the bench seems improbable.
Mbappé encountered a similar circumstance in a previous Champions League league phase encounter with Manchester City earlier in the season. Despite being deemed fit at the time, he did not play and stayed on the bench for the 2-1 loss.
Rodrygo’s serious injury has also been verified by Real Madrid.
After rupturing his right knee’s external meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament, the Brazilian striker underwent successful surgery.
“Our player Rodrygo has successfully undergone surgery for the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his right leg,” the team announced in a statement. Under the direction of Real Madrid Medical Services, Dr. Manuel Leyes carried out the procedure. In the upcoming days, Rodrygo will begin his rehabilitation efforts.
As he starts his rehabilitation regimen, Rodrygo will now be sidelined for a considerable amount of time.
