Dani Olmo, a midfielder for Barcelona, stated on Tuesday that comparing young winger Lamine Yamal to club legend Lionel Messi is “crazy.”
Similar to Messi, Barcelona’s all-time best scorer, Yamal attended the club’s prestigious La Masia youth system and has frequently been compared to the Argentine striker, a comparison he has attempted to downplay.
Yamal, 18, moved up to the top of La Liga on Sunday when Barcelona defeated Real Oviedo 3-0 thanks to an amazing acrobatic goal.
“I believe Lamine is aware of his path. Olmo stated at a press conference prior to Barcelona’s Champions League game against Copenhagen on Wednesday that it is absurd to compare any player now playing with Messi.
“Lamine is a ‘spectacle,’ he’s very young, and what he’s giving us now is amazing, and it will be much more in the future.”
In his first seasons at Barcelona, Ads by Yamal broke multiple records, including becoming the youngest La Liga striker. He made his debut at the age of 15.
The winger was essential to Barcelona’s run to the Champions League semifinals last season and won the Euro 2024 trophy with Spain.
“Yamal is composed, and he has a plan and a path.” It is our responsibility to assist him, so we will be there,” Olmo continued.
In the end, it’s a group effort. The team will succeed if Lamine performs well, wins, and scores goals.
In order to secure a top eight league phase berth and advance straight to the round of 16, Barcelona must defeat Copenhagen on Wednesday and hope for other favorable outcomes.
The Spanish champions will be without banned Frenkie de Jong and injured midfielder Pedri Gonzalez, although coach Hansi Flick stated that Ferran Torres might make a comeback following an injury.
Flick stated, “We have to play this match and respect Copenhagen, they have a fantastic team, and play at our top level.”
“We have a great opportunity to place in the top eight, and we’ll do everything in our power to do so.”
