After ending a protracted transfer drama, Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has expressed optimism about starting a new chapter in his career with Atletico Madrid.
The 28-year-old touched landed in the Spanish city on Sunday following months of rumors and long discussions with Atalanta.
Atletico Madrid confirmed the signing after the Italian club agreed to a €40 million agreement, made up of a €35 million base fee and €5 million in performance-related add-ons. Atalanta has already refused many proposals for Lookman since last summer, despite the player’s desire to seek a fresh challenge.
Before signing a long-term contract, the Nigerian international is anticipated to go through medical testing on Monday. His departure signals the completion of a great stint in Bergamo, most notably topped with his historic hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final.
Lookman expressed his excitement to supporters shortly after his arrival, adding, “I’m very, very happy to be here.” I’m eager to take on the challenge.
Atletico supporters are already excited about his coming and can’t wait to see how quickly he settles into La Liga and leaves his mark. Lookman sees the move as another big step in his career and an opportunity to compete at the top level of European football.
