Hossam Hassan, the head coach of Egypt, has stated unequivocally that the Pharaohs need to do more than only qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and make a lasting impression on the grandest platform of football.
The former Egyptian striker, who played for his country in the 1990 World Cup, thinks the current generation is capable of accomplishing what earlier teams were unable to do and establishing Egypt as one of the top teams in the world.
Before Egypt’s opening game against Belgium, Hassan discussed his goals for the competition and thought back on his own World Cup experience.
“As a player and coach, making it to the World Cup is fantastic,” Hassan remarked.
Egypt ought to occupy its proper position in football. Even though we didn’t follow through on it, I believe we achieved something positive back in 1990.
“We performed brilliantly and were on the verge of winning, but it was not meant to be. Thus, I’m hoping that, with God’s blessing, we can eventually succeed.
Despite being the most successful national team in Africa with seven Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) wins, Egypt has not yet advanced to the World Cup knockout stages, according to Naija News.
Hassan thinks the nation’s fervor for football can motivate the team to accomplish that long-standing objective.
“In Egypt, the concept of football should not be dismissed. It’s life, not just a game. Egyptians always unite in support of the Egyptian flag, particularly when it comes to football. Meeting the aspirations of Egyptians and supporters is important to me,” Hassan stated.
The coach also emphasized the significance of captain Mohamed Salah, calling the departing Liverpool striker one of the best players in the world of football.
The coach went on, “Mohamed Salah has broken countless records around the world.”
He is among the world’s top players, and I hope he outscores me. The most crucial thing is that we win and score goals for Egypt.
