Dominic Frimpong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea, was shot and killed when armed thieves opened fire on the team bus on Sunday, April 12, bringing tragedy to Ghanaian football.
The 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong was returning from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex when gunmen allegedly stopped the car on the Bibiani-Goaso route and started shooting.
As the attack progressed, players and staff ran into surrounding bushes in fear. After suffering a serious head injury, Frimpong was taken to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was eventually declared dead.
Berekum Chelsea released the following statement: “A group of armed robbers attacked our team bus on the way back to Berekum from Samreboi and blocked the road to prevent our passage.” As the driver attempted to reverse, masked guys brandishing assault rifles and welding guns began firing at our bus.

We also thank all of the well-wishers and, last but not least, the Ghana Football Association President for his quick response during this trying time.
In a separate statement, the Ghana Football Association verified the incident, expressing horror at the killing and sending condolences to the club and Frimpong’s family.
