After an incredible 24 years with the Spanish powerhouses, Real Madrid has revealed that captain Dani Carvajal will depart the team when his contract ends at the end of the current campaign.
After a remarkable career spanning junior and senior football, 34-year-old Dani Carvajal, who joined the academy in 2002, leaves as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
“Real Madrid has reached an agreement with our captain Dani Carvajal to end his wonderful journey as a player of our club at the end of this season,” the team said in an official statement.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and all its affection to one of the greatest legends in the history of our club and world football,” the statement continued.
Before returning from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 to solidify his spot in the starting lineup, Carvajal played in the youth ranks for ten seasons. He made 450 games over 13 senior seasons, contributing 65 assists and 14 goals.
His collection of trophies is astounding. Six Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga crowns, two Copa del Rey trophies, and four Spanish Super Cups were among the 27 titles that Carvajal earned. In addition, he is one of just five football players in history to win the European Cup six times.
Late in his career, he received individual honors. He received the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World XI 2024 award, was included in the FIFPro World XI 2024, and was awarded Player of the Match after scoring in the 2024 Champions League final.
He played 51 games for Spain at the international level, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2025 and Euro 2024.
Florentino Pérez, the club president, stated: “Dani Carvajal is a legend, a symbol of Real Madrid and its youth academy.” He is a symbol of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium that will always be in the hearts of all Madridistas and in our club’s history, alongside our cherished and remembered Alfredo Di Stéfano. Carvajal has consistently exemplified Real Madrid’s ideals. This will always be his home.
During Saturday’s last league game, Real Madrid will pay tribute to Carvajal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
