After serving an internal ban, Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is scheduled to return for Chelsea this weekend; yet, questions remain regarding the player’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
According to Naija News, 25-year-old Enzo Fernandez caused a stir during the international break by discussing his ambition to live in the capital of Spain in three interviews while serving with Argentina. Head coach Liam Rosenior and the club management agreed to a two-match suspension as a result of the remarks, which rekindled ties with Real Madrid.
Javier Pastore, Fernandez’s attorney, tried to get the suspension lifted, but the appeal was unsuccessful. The more severe 3-0 Premier League loss at home to Manchester City and the Blues’ 7-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Port Vale were both missed by the Argentine midfielder.
Pastore implied in his last interview that his client’s future would be impacted by Chelsea’s failure to earn a spot in the UEFA Champions League. The London team lost again, falling four points behind Liverpool FC in the race for fifth place.
There isn’t much internal regret over the punishment despite the fallout. Rosenior stated that discussions with the club’s leadership group, which includes captain Reece James, Moises Caicedo, and Levi Colwill, was the last “hurdle” before the suspension was confirmed.
