The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the public and party supporters to ignore a widely shared list that purports to be the official list of candidates for the states of Imo, Abia, and Anambra.
According to Naija News, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, the National Secretary of the NDC, explained in a statement on Friday that the list is fraudulent and did not come from the party.
He continued by saying that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already received the party’s list of legitimate candidates who will represent the party in the upcoming elections.
According to Enekweizu, mischievous people and others who don’t want the party to succeed are selling the false list.
“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned States,” the statement stated. The aforementioned lists are fraudulent and did not originate from the party headquarters.
Since then, our party has used the proper procedure as permitted by the Electoral Act to submit lists of legitimate candidates who will fly our party’s flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Mischievous people and those who don’t want the party to succeed are selling such lists. The party is looking into the origins of these fabrications and leaks, though, since they are desperate attempts to sow discord and divert attention within the party. This is to reassure our members that, with everyone’s help, the NDC is steadfastly committed to creating a party that would act as a vehicle to free Nigeria from its current parlous state.
