Eze Madumere, a former deputy governor of Imo State, left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he needed to refocus his political activity on democratic principles and improved service delivery.
According to Naija News, Madumere publicly announced his defection in a letter to the PDP in Imo State.
The former deputy governor stated in the letter that his choice was motivated by a desire to support a platform that represents the goals of the populace.
“I think it’s appropriate to create a new platform when the current one is no longer meeting the needs of the populace.
have made the decision to formally notify you of my departure from the APC and my joining the PDP. This will allow me to contribute my share to the country’s progress from an other angle,” he continued.
Madumere stated that his defection was intended to bring together like-minded people who are dedicated to reinstating citizens’ democratic rights and benefits.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership while pledging his support for youth empowerment, innovation, and open governance.
Madumere described the choice as a turning point and claimed it was made after extensive discussions with his family, mentors, fans, and political allies.
He claims that the defection is an important step in his political career and goals for the future.
Madumere expressed gratitude to the APC for providing him with chances, such as the position of deputy governor, but stated that his departure was motivated more by necessity than by animosity.
“I have come to terms with the idea that I could no longer be an appendage of a party that does not reward loyalty but is frequently in the habit of disrespecting and marginalizing members who have stuck their lives for the unity, progress, and development of society,” he stated.
The former deputy governor also blamed the APC’s internal strife, lack of ideological focus, and disdain for devoted members for his desertion.
He declared, “Staying there will be a disservice to the very people who once elected me as Imo State’s deputy governor.”
