Former Benue Speaker Dajoh Leaves the APC Assembly Primary

Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh, a representative for the Gboko West Constituency and a former speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the State House of Assembly.

In a statement issued by his media office, Dajoh announced his resignation, alleging purported anomalies and a lack of transparency in the ongoing APC primaries in several regions of the state.

The previous Speaker claimed that the process had allegedly been compromised based on reports from the exercises that had already been carried out.

Dajoh claims that the way the primaries were conducted in several places created grave questions about their legitimacy and fairness.

He claimed that in certain places, result sheets were filled out before to the start of voting.

The congressman further asserted that in some regions, winners were subsequently announced even though electoral materials did not reach authorized locations.

He claimed that these developments made it challenging for him to keep taking part in the process.

Dajoh insisted that, under the existing situation, entering the House of Assembly primary would be equivalent to endorsing a procedure that he believed to be defective.

He claimed that he could not support an exercise that, in his opinion, did not adhere to fundamental democratic principles.

In order to give members the freedom to select the candidates of their choice, the former Speaker required that party primaries be held in an open and reliable way.

Anything less would erode public trust in the party and internal democracy, he pointed out.

Dajoh thanked his supporters, delegates, party members, and stakeholders throughout the Gboko West Constituency and the entire Gboko Local Government Area notwithstanding his departure.

He also expressed gratitude to young people and women who have expressed faith in his desire for leadership.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude for their continued solidarity and trust throughout the process.

While waiting for more instructions, Dajoh urged his political allies and fans to maintain composure.

He pleaded with them to refrain from doing anything that may jeopardize local political tensions or upset the peace.

The former Speaker reaffirmed his dedication to the Gboko West Constituency’s prosperity, togetherness, and peace.

Additionally, he gave his followers his word that he would keep standing with the people and working to advance the constituency.
