Commissioner: Why Peter Obi Needed to Tell Us Before Traveling to Edo State

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi ought to have notified the state government prior to his arrival in the state, according to Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information.

He made this statement on Wednesday when answering questions during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” show.

He was responding to the gunmen’s assault on Obi and other prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders.

The former governor of Anambra state and other ADC members in Edo state were the target of an alleged “assassination attempt,” according to Naija News. This incident has caused outrage throughout Nigeria.

Speaking on the development, Afegbua claimed that because Obi is a politically exposed individual, he should notify the government of his visit.

Afegbua added that when Governor Monday Okpebholo asked Peter Obi to get his permission before entering the state last year, it was misunderstood.

“People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebolo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the extent that Peter Obi should please notify the state government whenever he wishes to visit Edo,” he stated.

However, given his political exposure, we would anticipate that Obi would be considerate enough to notify the current administration.

“What transpired in Edo should have been within the purview of the ADC, pitting one faction against another.
