Amaechi Responds to Atiku on Selecting the ADC Presidential Candidate: “I Don’t Agree”

Rotimi Amaechi, a former minister of transportation, has stated that he opposes the idea of selecting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election by agreement.

The former governor of Rivers State stated that people must be given the freedom to choose in an interview with Channels Television on Friday.

He did, however, add that while he would be willing to back the ultimate ADC presidential candidate, he would rather the party organize a primary contest.

Amaechi expressed his stance in response to a previous statement made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who said that the ADC would first look into the possibility of selecting its flagbearer by consensus.

“I will support him if he wins, but I disagree with those who say consensus candidate,” he declared. Let’s confront the populace and allow them to select the party members they desire.

“The ADC needs to have a primary election. Those who argue that a consensus candidate should be chosen disagree with me.

Amaechi stated that the zoning agreement between the North and South must not be legally enforceable in the modern sense because it is an internal procedure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former governor also stated that he has an advantage over other candidates for the presidency due to his youthful age because the role requires a person who is still capable.

Atiku is extremely qualified to be Nigeria’s president; he has the right to run for office. Regarding zoning or not, former vice president Atiku should understand that this is a PDP issue. I disagree with this, whether it is in the north or the south, but I do believe that the most qualified candidate should be given the opportunity to lead or be elected.

“At sixty, I am the youngest candidate currently running. They are all in their seventies. Capacity is needed for this,” he said.
