Tinubu accuses Coup: immediately support structural reforms TYF

The Pan Yoruba sociopolitical organization Yoruba First TYF’s Political Action Committee, or PAC, has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately put structural improvements ahead of rhetoric.

Nigeria’s existing over-centralized system has failed to protect lives, according to a statement from the committee that denounced the recently foiled coup and attempted assassination of President Tinubu and his senior executives, led by Arewa caucus.

The action was primarily planned by avaricious military personnel who are primarily from Arewa Extraction, according to a statement made by the Committee’s Director, Dr. Bukola Adeniji.

“The fragmented and inadequately organized Nigerian state is reflected in this unlawful action and threats to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s democratic order and President Bola Tinubu’s elected government.

Previous military interventions have cost Nigeria too much in the form of bloodshed, instability, and the loss of decades of progress. All patriots must categorically oppose any attempt to undermine the constitutional order, whether it be actual, suspected, or implied. We must never return to a time when our country was ruled by force.

“The current centralized security and governance architecture in Nigeria has failed miserably, as evidenced by the country’s growing instability, terrorism, banditry, and mass killings in many regions. While offenders go free, communities in the North, South-West, South-East, Middle Belt, and South-South continue to bury their dead. In any contemporary state, this is unacceptable.

Therefore, we implore President Bola Tinubu to put structural changes that deal with the underlying reasons of Nigeria’s insecurity and national disintegration ahead of rhetoric. Adopting true ethnolinguistic federalism, which is based on the following principles, is at the heart of these reforms: Devolution of Powers: Giving federating units based on common ethnolinguistic and cultural realities back control over local economic growth, internal security, and law enforcement.Regional Security Architecture: Allowing state and regional security forces supported by the constitution to work in tandem with federal security agencies. Allowing regions to manage a sizeable portion of their resources to finance social welfare, development, and security is known as fiscal federalism. Bringing government closer to the people so that communities can hold officials directly accountable for security lapses is known as local accountability.

The too centralized system in place in Nigeria has not been able to save lives. The voids left by remote, sluggish, and overburdened government oversight are fertile ground for violent actors, criminal networks, and terrorist organizations. The best long-term route to peace, security, and mutual prosperity is a reorganized federation based on Nigeria’s ethnolinguistic reality; it poses no threat to unity.

We reiterate that justice, equity, security, and consent—rather than coercion, silence, or fear—must be the foundation of Nigeria’s unity. The nation’s ongoing and needless death toll is a moral critique of the current system.

“We urge civil society, traditional institutions, and regional agencies to publicly endorse restructuring and community-based security, and we urge the President and National Assembly to launch immediate constitutional and security reforms. Nigerians in every region should demand a democratic system that upholds life and dignity, reject violence, and oppose coups.
