After a devastating downpour, two people die and families are displaced. In Kaduna

A strong downpour in the Dokan Mai-Jama’a hamlet in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State has resulted in at least two verified deaths.

In addition, the storm wrecked over fifty homes, uprooted numerous inhabitants, and left a number of families without a place to live.

Channels Television reports that Hamisu Tukur, the village head of Dokan Mai-Jama’a, verified the occurrence and stated that the rainstorm caused extensive damage throughout the hamlet.

He claimed that the wind had severely damaged numerous homes and that some had been totally destroyed.

According to locals, the intense downpour began at 6:41 p.m. and continued for almost forty minutes.

They claimed that strong gusts that accompanied the rain wrecked structures, blew off roofs, and exposed household goods to the elements.

A number of impacted locals were observed looking through their homes’ debris in an effort to find valuable items.

Some of the victims stated that they were still in disbelief over the extent of the damage, adding that they had little time to defend their families or property because the storm struck so quickly.

Many families in the community are now experiencing more hardship as a result of the tragedy, as some of the displaced inhabitants are now temporarily staying with neighbors and family.

Sabon Gyero, a neighborhood in the same local government area as Millennium City, was also impacted by the downpour.

The rain and high winds in Sabon Gyero reportedly wrecked over ten boundary fences and damaged several dwellings.

A main road in the vicinity was closed by the storm, forcing commuters and drivers to use alternate routes, which further disrupted traffic.

Residents demanded immediate action from the authorities, claiming that the devastation in both towns demonstrated the severity of the downpour.

The Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency have all received requests for assistance from the affected citizens.

They claimed that many families will require immediate aid to recover from the catastrophe since they had lost their homes, food, clothing, and other valuables.

The victims also demanded that those impacted receive food, building supplies, temporary housing, and medical assistance.

One of the locals stated that the neighborhood urgently needed assistance, pointing out that many victims had nowhere to sleep following the destruction of their homes.

The extent of the storm’s damage has started to be evaluated by emergency officials.

According to reports, a NEMA team has been sent to the impacted areas to assess the damage and ascertain what kind of aid the victims need.

It is anticipated that the evaluation would direct the state government’s and emergency services’ future actions.

During the rainy season, rainstorms frequently cause property damage, fatalities, and injuries in some areas of northern Nigeria.

Fears of more weather-related disasters in vulnerable populations were raised earlier by authorities, notably the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, who had warned of increasing rainfall intensity this year.
