Wale Akorede, better known by his stage name Okunnu, is a Nollywood actor who has expressed worries about the impact of rising gas prices on Nigerians.
According to Naija News, the actor said in an Instagram video that gas prices increased dramatically in a single day, from ₦1,240 per litre on March 21 to ₦1,340 per liter the next day.
Okunnu questioned why, in a nation that generates its own crude oil, fuel is still so expensive.
He also expressed worries about how rising expenses will affect common people, particularly low-income workers and bikers who struggle to pay for necessities.
“Today is March 22, 2026,” he stated. The price of gasoline was ₦1,240 per litre as of yesterday, the 21st. Today, Sunday, the price of gasoline is ₦1,340 per litre.
“Are we Nigerians or the government responsible for the increase? Why is fuel so expensive when we have our own crude oil? Fuel is available in other nations as well, although it is less costly. This hardship is our fault.
What about people who are unable to pay for necessities? Motorcyclists? Given their limited income and the rising cost of goods, what will their current circumstances be?
His comments coincide with the fact that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised gas prices many times this month.
The ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit reached ₦1,275 per litre after the refinery increased its gantry price five times in March 2026.
