
Following an earlier attack on the facility along its Gulf coast this week, Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that it has foiled a drone attack aimed at its giant Ras Tanura refinery.
In a statement published on X, the ministry stated, “Initial estimates indicate that the attack was carried out by a drone and did not result in any damage.”
Following an attack that resulted in a fire at the site, certain activities at the Ras Tanura refinery were suspended on Monday.
One of the biggest refineries in the Middle East and a key component of the kingdom’s energy industry is located at the Ras Tanura complex on the eastern Gulf coast.
The complex can process 550,000 barrels a day.
Since the US and Israel began a huge air campaign against Iran, Tehran has been accused by Gulf governments of targeting energy assets throughout the area amid waves of Iranian barrages fired at its neighbors.
