Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya, two leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), were welcomed by President Bola Tinubu on Sunday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Naija News, Jibrin Barau, the Deputy Senate President, escorted the two politicians from Kano State to the Villa.
The announcement coincides with rumors that Hanga and Gaya may officially leave the NDC and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
After missing out on their individual political aspirations under the NDC, the two lawmakers are apparently thinking about joining the APC.
According to reports, the former senator Hanga lost both the deputy governorship position within the NDC and the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.
After allegedly failing to secure a political post from Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NDC’s vice presidential candidate, he is reportedly quitting the party.
A consensus candidate from Kwankwaso’s camp reportedly defeated Gaya, who ran for the Kano South Senatorial seat under the NDC.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the APC, met with Hanga and Gaya before to the alleged defection.
It is believed that Sunday’s meeting with Tinubu in the Presidential Villa is another sign that the politicians may join the ruling party.
Next week, it is anticipated that the two Kano politicians will publicly declare their allegiance to the APC.
